Give Love

It’s really hard to comprehend the mass shootings and the loss of life that have been plaguing America for the last 25 years. We know there are a few things at play – that it is way too easy to get military style guns, that we have a mental health crisis in our country, and that the polarizing us v. them mentality makes it way too easy to dehumanize each other.

Community is important. I’ve written before about the effects of technology on our isolation and insular worlds. Social media has people yelling at each other, and writing behind a screen allows all sorts of things to be said that wouldn’t otherwise be said to someone’s face. We need the accountability and camaraderie of community.

I see enough people agreeing with this and disgusted and in shock at what is happening in this country. What will turn the tide enough to recognize and be kind to each other as the fellow humans we are, living this life at the same time on earth, which will lead to new laws?

We must love more. We must still the empty hate and open our hearts. We must rise above the propaganda. We must embrace that this world is full of all kinds of kinds. We must get uncomfortable with the ooey-gooey parts of human interaction. We must love the idea of community more.

Please keep bringing that love. I love Louisville and I love you.
